Kansas lawmakers approve new rules for regulating cemetery trust funds

? State lawmakers have approved legislation to protect Kansans against cemetery trust funds that are unable to cover the services promised.

The Senate passed the measure Tuesday on a vote of 40-0, a day after the House approved it 118-1. The bill goes to Gov. Mark Parkinson.

The bill would give the secretary of state’s office new authority to work with cemeteries with underfunded prepaid trust funds.

The management of cemetery trust funds came under scrutiny after problems at cemeteries in Hutchinson and Topeka.
