Kansas minister, wife blessed 4 times over

? A south-central Kansas minister and his wife have gotten a few more blessings than they reckoned for from the stork.

Lance and Jennifer Morrisett, already parents of a 5-year-old son, have added three boys and one girl to their family.

The babies were delivered Monday at an Arizona hospital known for its care of multiple births.

“We wanted one more baby, and God has blessed us with four,” Lance Morrisett told The Hutchinson News.

They are eager to show off babies Emma, Kaden, Lane and Bennett at Haven Church of Christ, where Morrisett is an evangelist.

So far, the babies are doing well at Banner Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, which is known for its care of multiple births.

They are remarkably large for quadruplets, born with weights of 4 pounds 9 ounces, 5 pounds 2 ounces, 5 pounds 9 ounces and 5 pounds 3 ounces.

Added together, the total baby weight is 20 pounds 7 ounces — a record for Dr. John Elliott, the Arizona doctor dubbed the “King of Quads.”

He and his colleagues at the hospital have delivered nearly 100 sets of quadruplets, 10 sets of quintuplets and two sets of sextuplets.

Another good sign is that the babies were delivered in the 34th week of pregnancy; the average quad pregnancy lasts 29.5 weeks.

“It’s pretty uncommon to get that far along,” Elliott said.

The babies were conceived through intrauterine insemination, and it wasn’t long into the pregnancy before the couple learned they were having not just one baby, but four. The Morrisett family temporarily relocated to Phoenix in November.

Elliott called it a “picture-perfect” pregnancy. The quadruplets’ older brother Cullen is excited about the arrival and helping his parents, as well, Morrisett said.

“He said he would be a big helper,” he said, then laughed. “Except for changing diapers. He’s made that very clear.”
