Kids Voting Kansas aims to win grant via Facebook contest

? Topeka-based Kids Voting USA and Kids Voting Kansas are competing online for the chance to win $250,000 from Chase Community Giving, and Facebook users can cast votes to help.

The competition is a project of JPMorgan Chase. Chase will announce on July 13 the winning charity of $250,000. Four runners-up will receive $100,000, and 195 others will win $20,000 each.

Kids Voting USA is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, grassroots organization dedicated to educating elementary and secondary school students about the rights, responsibilities and process of participating in democracy. Kids Voting Kansas is an affiliate of Kids Voting USA.

Leaders say the funding would help both organizations in their mission to develop educated and engaged citizens.

Voting is available on the “Chase Community Giving” Facebook page. Facebook users are granted 20 votes and may vote for a charity one time.
