Fort Riley soldier killed in Iraq

June 23, 2010

— A Fort Riley soldier has died in Iraq in what the Army described as a noncombat incident.

Officials at the Kansas post on Wednesday identified the soldier as 20-year-old Spc. Jacob Dohrenwend of Milford, Ohio. The Defense Department says he died Monday in Balad in central Iraq of injuries suffered in a noncombat incident.

Dohrenwood was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company of the 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment. The unit is part of the 1st Infantry Division, based at Fort Riley.

Dohrenwend enlisted in May 2008 and was assigned to Fort Riley in October 2008. This was his first deployment.

To date, 173 soldiers, airmen and sailors assigned to Fort Riley have been killed in either Afghanistan or Iraq.
