KDHE will feature lead paint meeting

To update contractors, property managers and the public on lead paint regulations, the Kansas Department of Health and Environment is having an informational meeting on Monday.

The meeting will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department, 200 Maine, Suite B. Anyone can attend.

Kansas has the Lead-Based Paint Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule, which is intended to protect people from lead dust exposure and lead poisoning.

The law, which applies to homes, apartments and any child-occupied facility built before 1978, affects repair work, renovation activity and painting.

Monday’s meeting will review what the regulations entail, including pre-renovation education of occupants, training of staff, certification and licensing. The KDHE will also discuss proper on-the job work practices.
