Funeral for Franklin County deputy set for Friday

? A Franklin County sheriff’s deputy who died in a traffic accident while on duty will be buried in Ottawa on Friday.

Franklin County Sheriff’s Deputy Samuel Smith died last Friday when he lost control of his patrol vehicle as he was responding to a domestic disturbance call near Pomona.

Smith, 22, began working for the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office last November. He graduated in March from the Kansas Law Enforcement Training Center.

Praying the Rosary will take place at Sacred Heart Church, 408 South Cedar, on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will follow the Rosary.

The memorial service will be held at Ottawa University Chapel at 10 a.m. Friday. Burial will follow the memorial service.
