Government officials won’t fill potholes

? It might have sounded like a good idea for the city of Topeka to have its middle- and upper-level managers help fill potholes.

But the Topeka Capital-Journal reports attorneys quickly quashed the idea because of safety and training issues.

The city announced in June that a new initiative would require members of the city government’s management to spend four hours per week working on streets.

City administrators say they decided later that month not to pursue that plan after attorneys advised against it.

That decision wasn’t publicized until this week when a Capital-Journal reporter asked how many hours management members had spent doing street repairs.
