Soldiers return to Fort Riley after a year in Iraq

? More than 400 soldiers of Fort Riley’s 1st Infantry Division are scheduled to return to Kansas after a year in Iraq.

The soldiers are from the 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment of the division’s 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team.

They were scheduled to arrive Wednesday in two waves, to be reunited with their families in ceremonies at the northeast Kansas post.

The squadron deployed to Iraq in August 2009 and was placed under the control of a brigade from the 1st Cavalry Division, later the 3rd Infantry Division in Nenewah Province.

Soldiers from the squadron were responsible for an area roughly the size of Connecticut.
