Warden at women’s prison reassigned

? The warden at Kansas’ prison for women has been reassigned following the release of a report about its operations.

It’s the latest development following allegations of widespread illegal sex between staff and female inmates at the Topeka Correctional Facility.

The state had denied the allegations.

Kansas Corrections Secretary Roger Werholtz announced Friday that warden Richard Koerner has been reassigned to the department’s staff at Koerner’s request.

Werholtz says Koerner decided that remaining as warden would create an unnecessary distraction for the prison staff.

Also Friday, Gov. Mark Parkinson released a federal agency’s report saying changes are needed at the prison but finding no widespread management problems.
