Franklin County community of Pomona in disarray after lawsuit

? The city government of Pomona is in disarray, which began after the mayor sued the city council and the town’s zoning administrator.

The problem worsened when the man hired as city attorney in November resigned last Friday — leaving Pomona with no legal representation to fight the lawsuit.

Mayor Joann Hancock says she sued the city because the council and zoning administrator Doug Combs are violating a state law that requires most elected or appointed to live in the place where they serve. Combs lives in Baldwin City.

City attorney Michael Sheridan, who had been advising the council, resigned Friday. No reason was given.

City council member Marie Seneca says the council will contact its insurance company to see if it will represent Pomona. Otherwise, the city will have to hire a private attorney.
