Wichita district to vote on suing state
Wichita ? The state’s largest school district is considering whether it wants to pay more to take the state to court over school funding.
The Wichita school board already agreed to spend $89,000 to become a full member of a coalition of Kansas districts called Schools for Fair Funding.
The board members are set to vote Monday night on whether to spend another $134,000 so the district can help pay for litigation.
Schools for Fair Funding voted earlier this month on a resolution to ask the Supreme Court to reopen a school funding lawsuit that was filed in 1999. Should the Supreme Court deny the request to reopen the case, Schools for Fair Funding members authorized the filing of a new lawsuit to address school finances.
Many of the districts are angry after seeing their budgets slashed.
