Statehouse renovation to stop dome tours

? The dome of the Kansas Statehouse will be off limits to visitors after Saturday.

Guided tours of the dome are being put on hold as renovation continues. They’re expected to resume in June 2012.

The door that leads to the steps of the dome is in the north wing of the Capitol’s top floor. Statehouse Architect Barry Greis says construction work will begin in that area after the new year starts.

Tours of the rest of the Statehouse remain available Monday through Saturday.

The renovation began in 2001. It’s expected to cost at least $285 million.
