Wichita — Police say a fight near a Wichita high school led to a chase in which a 16-year-old student died.
The victim has been identified as Yadira Villa. The drivers of both vehicles have been arrested and faces charges.
Lt. Ken Landwehr said Friday that it all started Thursday with the fight across the street from Southeast High School.
He said the fight broke off as members of one gang got into a vehicle and raced off. A short time later, members of the rival gang spotted the vehicle. A chase ensued, which ended with a crash.
That’s when Villa opened her door and got out. But the open door knocked Villa under the car when the driver tried to leave.
Police said several people in the packed cars were documented gang members, but Villa was not.
