Man gets life term in 1998 slaying of boy

? A man has been sentenced to life plus 59 months in the 1998 drive-by killing of an 8-year-old Wichita boy.

Oscar Torres received the sentence Friday. Prosecutors said he drove a car to a south Wichita house, where Tony Galvan was killed as he played with his German shepherd puppy.

Torres fled to Mexico and was not apprehended for nearly eight years. He returned to Sedgwick County, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life.

The Kansas Supreme Court then overturned his original sentence on a technical legal violation.

Sedgwick County District Judge Greg Waller corrected the legal terms required by the appeals court and gave Torres the same sentence.

Several others were convicted in the killing.
