Kansas gets $2.6 million bonus for enrolling more kids in Children’s Health Insurance Program
Kansas has received a $2.6 million bonus from the federal government for raising enrollment in the Children’s Health Insurance Program.
The Kansas Health Policy Authority says the state increased its enrollment by 9 percent during the fiscal year that ended June 30.
The Children’s Health Insurance Program is funded jointly by states and the federal government and administered by states under federal rules. It provides coverage for working families that can’t afford private health insurance but wouldn’t qualify for other government coverage.
The Kansas authority says it took steps to reduce the number of children who qualify but are not enrolled. Those measures included eliminating a requirement that families applying for the program be interviewed in person.
