Salina church secretary sentenced for embezzlement

? A former church secretary in Salina has been granted probation in an embezzlement case.

The Salina Journal reported that Sherri L. Seiler will be able to avoid serving a yearlong prison sentence as long as she fulfills probation requirements and pays nearly $68,300 in restitution. The sentence was imposed Monday in Saline County District Court.

According to court documents, Seiler had generated 81 unauthorized checks since 2006 to compensate herself above her agreed-upon salary and to give herself additional retirement and medical benefits.

Seiler pleaded guilty in July to one count of felony theft and one count of a computer crime.

She is a former administrative assistant at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.
