Benedictine College to honor Mother Teresa

? A Catholic college in northeast Kansas will mark the 100th birthday of the late Mother Teresa with several honors, including the naming of a building for the Nobel Peace Prize winner.

Buildings at Benedictine College will be illuminated in blue from Aug. 26, the date of the Albanian nun’s birth, to Sept. 5, the date of her death in 1997.

The Atchison school is also naming its new nursing and health education building for the nun who worked among the poor in Calcutta, India.

And a prayer for Mother Teresa’s canonization will be said Sept. 4 at Benedictine’s first home football game of the season.

Mother Teresa traveled to Atchison in 1981, visiting with the Benedictine Sisters of Mount St. Scholastica when Benedictine College operated a campus at that site.
