Leavenworth County fair kicks off Tuesday in Tonganoxie

? The 84th annual Leavenworth County Fair kicks off with Tuesday’s 4-H judging and fair parade.

This year’s theme for the parade, which starts at 6:30 p.m. in downtown Tonganoxie, is “A Little Bit Country.” A draft horse pull follows the parade at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds, just off Kansas Highway 16 in Tonganoxie.

Featured entertainment is planned for each night of the fair: barrel racing Wednesday, open team penning Thursday, a mud run Friday and demolition derby Saturday.

Wednesday evening, another main attraction will be a talent show, while musical entertainers Fast Johnny Ricker and The Fairmounters will perform Thursday and Friday respectively.

Open class and 4-H projects will be judged and on display throughout the fair, which concludes Saturday evening.

And a fair wouldn’t be complete without pie eating contest, turtle races and a youth tractor pull. Those events start at noon Saturday with pie eating at noon, turtle races at 1 p.m. and tractor pull at 3 p.m.
