Teen killed in accident at Lyon County Fair
Emporia ? A vehicle taking part in a mud track event at a central Kansas county fair ran off the track and hit a pickup truck in the spectator area, killing a teenager.
Hannah Deaver, 17, of Shawnee, died Saturday after the accident at the Lyon County Fair.
Police said Deaver was sitting in the back of a pickup watching the fair’s “Mud-A-Thon,” when one of the modified pickup trucks in the event went through a guard rail, became airborne, and hit the pickup where Deaver and another teen were sitting. The modified truck came to a stop past the pickup where the teens had been.
The other teen was treated and released from a hospital. Deaver was pronounced dead at a Wichita hospital.
Police said the cause of the accident is under investigation.
