Kansans to rally in support of services for those with disabilities

? Lawmakers returning to the Kansas Statehouse this week will be greeted by a rally to support services for people with mental disabilities.

Wednesday’s event culminates a monthlong, statewide relay called “Walk a Mile in My Shoes.” Volunteers in several communities walked more than 8,500 miles since late March to raise awareness of the work of Interhab, a network of groups that serve developmentally disabled Kansans.

The last mile of the relay is scheduled to end at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday on the south side of the Capitol.

Kansas legislators are returning to Topeka on Wednesday to complete the year’s business, including passage of a state budget. Speakers at the rally will urge lawmakers to give high priority to the mentally disabled.
