Farmhand convicted in killing Oskaloosa man

? A man accused of killing northeast Kansas farmer who had given him a place to stay has been found guilty of second-degree murder.

A Jefferson County jury returned the verdict Monday against Adam Hooper. Sentencing is set for June 8.

The victim, Dale Kingsbury, was reported missing last Aug. 8 from his farm in rural Oskaloosa. His beaten body was found the same day dumped in a cistern on the property.

Hooper had been living in a tent on Kingsbury’s land in exchange for working as a farmhand. In an interview with detectives, Hooper said he was overworked and had beaten Kingsbury more than 100 times.

Prosecutors had sought a conviction on a charge of first-degree murder.
