Fort Riley ? Lt. Dan and his band are reporting for duty this weekend at Fort Riley.

Actor Gary Sinise, who portrayed Lt. Dan in the movie “Forrest Gump,” will perform with his Lt. Dan Band today as Fort Riley celebrates the Month of the Military Child. Sinise plays bass in the 11-member, Chicago-based band.

The event will be held at a hangar at Fort Riley’s Marshall Army Airfield. Activities include tethered hot air balloon rides, entertainment, activities, food and information booths.

The event is free and open to the public.

Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band will play in Kansas City, Mo., on Sunday. That show begins at 7 p.m. at the Uptown Theater, 3700 Broadway.
