Fort Riley set to dedicate victory garden

? A ribbon-cutting and tree planting will mark the dedication of a new Victory Garden at Fort Riley later this month.

The project is being coordinated by the Army and Picerne Military Housing, the private contractor responsible for residences on the northeast Kansas post.

The garden will have 72 plots, each measuring 20 feet by 20 feet, to be worked by residents of base housing. Picerne is providing the land, maintenance and equipment storage space, and will till the soil each year if requested.

The dedication is scheduled for April 22, which is Earth Day.

There are more than 18,000 soldiers stationed at Fort Riley, home of the Army’s 1st Infantry Division.
