Inmate charged with threatening governor

? An inmate scheduled for release next month has been charged with sending a threatening letter to Kansas Gov. Mark Parkinson.

Gregory Weir, 41, is serving time at the Hutchinson Correctional Facility for a 1999 Russell County robbery conviction.

Hutchinson Correctional Facility spokesman Steve Schneider says Weir threatened to shoot the governor when he was released from prison. Schneider says Weir blamed the governor for “wrecking the Kansas economy.”

Prison employees intercepted the letter last month.

Weir made his first appearance on the criminal threat charge last week in Reno County District Court. He remains in the Hutchinson Correctional Facility but has a $25,000 bond in the new case.
