Statehouse Live: Complaint against former AG Kline will be ready soon, official says

? An ethics complaint against former Attorney General Phill Kline will be filed within 30 to 45 days, according to Stanton Hazlett, who is in charge of an investigation into allegations of attorney misconduct.

The allegations stem from Kline’s investigations into abortion clinics.

On Monday, Hazlett, who is disciplinary administrator for the Board for Discipline of Attorneys, released a complaint against Kline’s former assistant attorney general Stephen Maxwell.

The complaint alleges Maxwell misled a judge and grand jury in investigations of abortion providers.

In February, Hazlett notified Kline, Maxwell and Kline’s former deputy attorney general Eric Rucker that they would face ethics complaints.

On Tuesday, he said the complaints against Kline and Rucker would be ready within 30 to 45 days.

In an e-mail statement sent to The Associated Press, Kline said of the complaint against Maxwell. “He doesn’t deserve this kind of vindictive prosecution motivated by political considerations. Someday, the full story of what has transpired behind closed doors in Kansas will come out.”
