Historical society looking for public input on mission

The Douglas County Historical Society has created an online survey so the public can help board members focus the mission for the society and the Watkins Community Museum of History.

The survey takes a few minutes to complete, and is available online.

A copy of the survey is also available at the museum, 1047 Mass.

“We need to hear from people in all parts of the county, representing all ages and interests,” said Dale Slusser, the board’s president.

The historical society has also conducted as series of meetings this month to gather public input.

The remaining meetings will be 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Baldwin City Library, 800 Seventh St., and 7 p.m. Thursday at Watkins Museum. One meeting originally scheduled for last week will now be 7 p.m. Oct. 12 at Clinton Township Hall, 1177 E. 604 Road.

Board members are seeking suggestions from the public on how to tell the county’s important historical stories and connect them as part of the Freedom’s Frontier National Heritage Area.
