Hutchinson ? The Kansas State Fair is about midway through its run in Hutchinson.

The fair opened Friday and continues through Sept. 20. It typically draws more than 340,000 people from across Kansas and neighboring states.

On tap for Tuesday are sheep shearing and wool demonstration, high school debates and equestrian acrobatics.

On Monday, 31-year-old Mark Hellwig of Mulvane, won a chicken-wing eating contest by downing 1.8 pounds of chicken in just five minutes.

The chicken wing-eating contest at this year’s fair will be a daily competition. Whoever eats the most in the 10 days of the fair wins a new mountain bike. The record so far was set Saturday, when a man ate 2 pounds of chicken wings.
