Groundbreaking planned for latest wind turbine factory in Kansas

? A groundbreaking ceremony for a new wind turbine manufacturing plant in Kansas is scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at the State Fair.

German-based Siemens Energy Inc. plans to build a 300,000-square-foot plant and 90,000-square-foot service and repair center in Hutchinson. The firm says it will create about 400 jobs.

The plant will manufacture 90-ton nacelles, which hold the equipment for generating electricity, including the control electronics and gearbox.

Gov. Mark Parkinson plans to participate, along with local officials and officials from the state departments of Commerce and Transportation.
