Man survives 40-foot drop in bridge crash
Topeka ? A Topeka man suffered only minor injuries Tuesday when a van he was driving crashed through a bridge railing and dropped 39 feet into a creek.
Topeka police say 40-year-old Allen Schroeder was able to get out of the van and get to shore after the van crashed through a guardrail, went off a U.S. Highway 24 bridge and landed wheels up in Soldier Creek.
No one else was in the van, which belonged to Bailey’s Recycling Co.
A dive team pulled the van out of the creek.
Crews from the Kansas Department of Transportation were checking on damage to the bridge.
