Sports Hall of Fame to close for move
Wichita ? The Kansas Sports Hall of Fame will close on Sunday to get ready for an eventual move to the Wichita Boathouse.
Ted Hayes, president of the sports hall, says a date to open at the new location will be determined when businessman Bill Koch and the city finalize an agreement.
In June, the Wichita City Council approved a plan to move the hall of fame to the Wichita Boathouse on the Arkansas River near downtown.
Koch has said he’ll pay about $679,000 to renovate the Boathouse. He — or an entity he operates — will pay $1 a year for 99 years to lease the building.
The hall nearly defaulted on its rent for the city-owned Old Town location last year. Koch donated $100,000, then pushed to have the hall moved to the Boathouse.
