De Soto Days Festival will have a new home for its 45th year.

The festival — which runs Thursday through Saturday — will be at De Soto Riverfest Park, 33630 W. 79th St. The park on the south bank of the Kansas River opened last October.

Raheema Sampson, chairman of the festival committee, said the move already has paid off, with the addition of food and commercial vendors. And committee members said the move from Miller Park would make the festival more enjoyable for people attending.

“Riverfest Park was designed for festivals,” said Ron Crow Jr., De Soto Days Festival Committee entertainment chairman.

Crow said the amenities should be especially beneficial for enjoying the entertainment he has lined up for all three nights, including the Beatles tribute band Liverpool, which will perform Saturday.

The festival will be much the same as past De Soto Days despite the move. The first two nights will include food booths, entertainment and the Evans Midland Empire Shows Inc. carnival. Saturday will be the big day with the children’s parade in downtown De Soto starting at 9:45 a.m. followed by the main parade at 10 a.m.

Two groups are taking advantage of the festival for special events. The De Soto Art Council replaced its annual fall art show with an art walk at which artists will show and offer work at booths from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Riverfest Park.

And a 5K and 10K run/walk to benefit De Soto Youth Ministries is set for 8 a.m. Saturday. Online registration is at desotoyouthministries.org or late registration is available from 6:30 to 7:30 a.m. Saturday. A pancake breakfast is set for 7:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at De Soto Youth Ministries, 33180 W. 83rd St.
