Wife, her son charged in slaying in Tecumseh

? Four people were charged Monday in the shooting death of a northeastern Kansas man, and authorities said the victim’s stepson confessed to pulling the trigger.

Dakota Loomis, a spokesman for the Shawnee County District Attorney’s office, told a judge that Scott M. Mosher confessed to shooting 51-year-old Gerald S. Eberhardt, who was pronounced dead Sunday at his home in Tecumseh. Charges were filed Monday afternoon and a hearing was set for Mosher on Nov. 5.

Mosher, 19, was being held on $750,000 bond for charges of first-degree premeditated murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

Also being held were Eberhardt’s 43-year-old wife, Michelle L. Eberhardt, 21-year-old Stephanie A. Menard and 20-year-old Derrick Dewayne Haase. Michelle Eberhardt and Haase were being held on $300,000 bond, while Menard was held on $200,000 bond.

The relationship between Menard and Haase and the victim wasn’t immediately clear.

Loomis said Mosher and Haase were members of a Topeka gang affiliated with the Folks Nation, a larger collection of gangs that operate throughout the Midwest.

Shawnee County Sheriff Dick Barta said he didn’t think the shooting was gang related.

He said deputies had responded to the house east of Topeka 14 times in this year, including five for domestic issues and other occasions for to serve warrants.

“On the surface, it appears to be a domestic problem,” Barta said.

Eberhardt owned Wizz By Auto Sales in North Topeka.
