State Fair attendance increases 10 percent over last year

? Attendance at this year’s Kansas State Fair was up about 10 percent over last year.

Fair officials also said Friday that the fair brought in more money this year.

A total of 350,856 people attended the fair, which was Sept. 11-20 in Hutchinson. That’s an increase of more than 31,000 over 2008.

Fair manager Denny Stoecklein said it was the best-attended fair since 2000. He said total ticket gate sales were about $1.25 million this year, up from $1.11 million last year.

He said that in addition to good weather, fairgoers also took advantage of programs like “dollar day” and discounted advanced ticket sales.
