Topeka ? The board that oversees Kansas’ higher education system is considering its funding problems.

The Board of Regents planned to meet Wednesday to discuss the budget for the fiscal year that begins July 1.

Gov. Mark Parkinson’s staff is preparing his recommendations for legislators to consider next year, and the regents will hear from Budget Director Duane Goossen.

Higher education officials don’t expect to hear any good news.

The state has had four rounds of spending cuts and other adjustments this year to keep its current budget balanced. Parkinson expects to make nearly $260 million in further revisions next week to prevent a deficit from emerging.

And legislators expect to face similar problems for the next fiscal year.
