Lawrence leaders will conduct a birthday celebration next week to commemorate the 234th anniversary of the founding of the U.S. Marine Corps.

Marines, Marine veterans and friends of the Marine Corps are invited to attend the event at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Dole Institute of Politics, 2350 Petefish Road on the Kansas University West Campus.

The event will include a speech from Col. Stephen D. Waldron, chief of staff at the Marine Corps Mobilization Command. The Lawrence High School Chorale also will perform.
