Trial scheduled in vehicular homicide

A Douglas County District Court judge has set a January trial date for a man charged with vehicular homicide in the death last spring of an 80-year-old Lawrence man.

Michael Peng is charged in the death of Wallace “Wally” May, who was struck and killed April 7 as he walked on the sidewalk in the 200 block of North Michigan Street. Peng was driving out of his apartment complex when the accident occurred.

Vehicular homicide is a misdemeanor in Kansas and is punishable by a fine of up to $2,500 and/or up to one year in jail, according to prosecutors.

Douglas County District Judge Sally Pokorny scheduled a jury trial for Jan. 27. Motions in the case will be heard later this month.
