Topeka officials investigating what caused a truckload of garbage to catch fire

? Fire officials in Topeka are investigating what caused a garbage truck’s load to catch on fire, forcing the driver to dump it in a pharmacy parking lot.

Authorities said the driver noticed the load of garbage in his truck bed was burning around 3:45 a.m. Tuesday. He pulled into a southwest Topeka shopping center and unloaded the smoldering heap.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze but had to return a few hours later when the trash reignited.

By 8 a.m., Shawnee County Refuse Department workers had cleared away the mound of garbage.
