McKinney names new assistant state treasurer

? A former aide to Kansas’ governor and lieutenant governor is the new assistant state treasurer.

Aaron Otto began his new job Tuesday, the same day his appointment was announced by State Treasurer Dennis McKinney.

Otto had been serving both as chief of staff to the lieutenant governor and as a legislative liaison for the governor’s office. Mark Parkinson was elevated from lieutenant governor to governor last month, when Kathleen Sebelius resigned to become U.S. secretary of health and human services.

Otto also has served in the Navy and as an aide at the Pentagon.

The assistant state treasurer’s job has been vacant since January, when McKinney took over. He was appointed by Sebelius to replace Lynn Jenkins, a Republican who won a U.S. House seat in November.
