Indictment: Pot found among cookie boxes

A plan to stash more than 200 pounds of marijuana in a shipment of cookies leads to federal drug charges.

Acting U.S. Attorney Marietta Parker announced Thursday that a federal grand jury meeting in Topeka had returned an indictment against three men accused of possessing the pot.

The defendants are 70-year-old Taurino Cereceres-Morales, 29-year-old Juan Morales and 33-year-old Jesus Robles. Authorities did not provide hometowns for the men.

Prosecutors allege that agents watched last month as the men picked up a shipment of cookies in Kansas City, Mo., and took it to the garage of a residence that Morales was renting in Kansas City, Kan.

A search of the cookies uncovered 230 pounds of pot that was packaged in 221 bundles
