LHS student who brought gun to school makes first appearance

A student accused of bringing a gun to Lawrence High School in January made his first court appearance Thursday before a Douglas County judge.

The 17-year-old senior is charged with criminal possession of a firearm and criminal use of weapons, for carrying a concealed firearm.

School officials said the student admitted to a staff member on Jan. 20 that he had brought a gun into the building several days earlier.

During Thursday’s hearing, a not guilty plea was entered and a judge set a trial-setting date for April 8.
