Shawnee man pleads guilty in death of KU grad student from France

A Shawnee man has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and aggravated battery in a February accident that claimed the life of a Kansas University graduate student from France.

Steven Cummins, 25, Shawnee, entered the guilty plea Tuesday in Johnson County District Court. He faces a sentencing hearing at 11 a.m. Aug. 13.

He was charged in the Feb. 7 accident that killed Dimitri Mavridorakis, 23, a KU graduate student from Saint-Étienne, France.

Mavridorakis was helping a friend with car trouble along Shawnee Mission Parkway in Merriam when a Dodge Dakota drove up from behind and hit him.

Cummins remains in the Johnson County Adult Detention Center on a $100,000 bond.
