KCK to decide Thursday on a new casino plan

? Unified government commissioners will vote Thursday on endorsing two proposals to operate a state-owned casino in Wyandotte County.

The commissioners debated the issue for five hours last Thursday but adjorned without taking a vote.

At issue are proposals for a $387 million casino by a partnership that includes Kansas Speedway and a $320 million proposal by Penn National Gaming Inc.

The speedway proposal calls for 2,300 slot machines, 86 table games, a lounge and restaurants. Penn’s proposal includes 1,500 slots, 58 tables and 250-room hotel, restuarants and lounges.

The Kansas Lottery reopened bidding after the speedway group withdrew in December to rework its proposal.
