Lottery Commission to review casino proposals

? The Kansas Lottery Commission will meet later this month to review proposals for casinos in the Kansas City area and south-central Kansas.

The commission isn’t sure whether it will approve casino contracts at the June 17 meeting for Wyandotte and Sumner counties. Its deadline is the end of the month.

The Lottery will own the new gambling under a 2007 law. It can forward multiple contracts for each county to a state review board, which will pick one for each county.

Sumner County applications were filed by Foxwoods Development, of St. Louis; Lakes Entertainment, a Minnesota firm; and a partnership involving two former top officials of Las Vegas’ Mandalay Resort Group.

Competing in Wyandotte County are Penn National Gaming and a partnership involving Kansas Speedway.
