Washington ? Sen. Pat Roberts is again asking EPA administrator Lisa Jackson to visit Treece, which is contaminated with mine waste.

In a letter, Roberts offered to take Jackson on a tour of the southeast Kansas town along the Oklahoma border during the congressional recess Aug. 19-21.

Roberts and Rep. Lynn Jenkins have been pushing the Environmental Protection Agency to buy out the nearly 100 residents still living in the town.

Jackson hasn’t decided whether to accept Roberts’ current invitation.

The EPA office in Dallas has approved a buyout for Picher, Okla., which is just across the state line from Treece.

But EPA officials in Kansas City have resisted a buyout of Treece, saying the government has already done substantial work to make the town safe.
