Legislator elected VP of national group

State Rep. Melvin Neufeld, R-Ingalls, is the new vice president of the National Conference of State Legislatures’ Executive Committee.

“I am honored and excited to have this opportunity to serve my fellow legislators at the national level,” said Neufeld, elected to the leadership post Thursday in Philadelphia.

The 60-member Executive Committee is made up of 40 state legislators and 20 members of legislators’ staffs. Together, they lead a larger organization that lobbies the federal government regarding state interests and issues, and provides information and other assistance to state governments.

Neufeld is serving his 12th term in the Kansas Legislature, representing constituents in Gray, Meade, Clark and parts of Ford counties in southwest Kansas.
