Teacher sentenced to jail, probation

A former Basehor Elementary School fifth-grade teacher on Friday received 30 days in jail and a three-year probation sentence after he pleaded in November to three counts of inappropriately touching students.

A Leavenworth County district judge had convicted Floyd M. Rogers Jr. of three counts of attempted aggravated indecent liberties with a child. Prosecutors accused Rogers of touching schoolchildren over their clothing that began in 2004-2005.

Rogers, of Bonner Springs, has no criminal history, so prosecutors did not oppose probation because he will not be allowed to get a teaching license again.

The victims’ parents also did not object to the plea deal because the victims did not have to testify at trial.
