Car-train collision kills motorist in Olathe

? A railroad spokesman says a motorist killed in a train collision in the Kansas City suburb of Olathe had parked on the tracks.

Steve Forsberg of BNSF told KSHB-TV in Kansas City that a video camera mounted on the train appears to confirm the crews reports that the car backed into the path of the oncoming freight train.

The crew blew the horn and applied the brakes but was unable to stop in time.

The car was pushed about three-quarters of a mile before coming to a rest. Afterward, the stopped train blocked several intersections in the area for hours.

Olathe police were investigating. They did not immediately release the name of the victim.

Forsberg says the locomotive crew requested and was granted trauma relief.
