Topeka ? The Kansas Arts Commission wants to create a new license plate to help fund its programs.

A bill sought by the commission is before the House Transportation Committee. The panel is scheduled to have a hearing today.

The measure allows the commission to design the plate and charge from $25 to $100 a year to motorists.

The commission would cover the state’s costs in making and issuing the plates.
