Good Samaritan beaten outside bar

A 25-year-old Lawrence man said he had to intervene early Saturday morning when he saw that four men had jumped another man in a downtown Lawrence alley.

As he ran up and tried to distract the four men in the 1000 block of Massachusetts Street, their victim was able to get away.

But then, the men turned their attention to the rescuer.

He suffered a concussion, bruises and scrapes. After a trip to Lawrence Memorial Hospital’s emergency room, he was treated and released Saturday.

At 12:30 a.m. Saturday, the man had stepped outside of Fatso’s, 1016 Mass., to call someone when he saw the four men attacking the first victim, whom police apparently never found.

The four suspects beat the man and took his wallet and about $100 of his property, according to a police report. Police have described the suspects as white men with medium builds and brown hair. They wore thick T-shirts and light winter jackets.

Lawrence police did not release any other information Monday. Anyone with information about the incident can call Douglas County dispatchers at 841-7210.
