Men charged with defrauding seniors
Olathe ? Three men have been accused of defrauding thousands of senior citizens across the country through an alleged prescription drug scheme.
Prosecutors on Friday said 44-year-old Grant Wilms, 74-year-old Hermann Wilms, both of Overland Park, and 83-year-old Kenneth Opstein, of Sioux City, Iowa, were charged with 29 counts including theft, false writings and computer crimes.
Authorities are reported to believe the scheme netted thousands of victims across the country and that similar schemes are still running.
Prosecutors say the men operated companies that promised prescription drug discounts. Once a customer provided their bank or credit card information, the men allegedly withdrew money in amounts of $110 or less.
